16 YEAR-OLD FEMALE STUDENT MISSING IN JIGAWA SCHOOL

A 16 year old girl and student of Government Girls Science Junior Secondary School Miga has been declared missing from the school for almost 14 days.

The Jigawa State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hajiya Rabi Ishaq confirmed the sudden disappearance of the girl student adding that, she is a JSS one student.
The girl who is an indigene of Dutse local government was alleged to have jumped over the school fence to avoid punitive action meted against her by a teacher that promised to subject her to a continuous round of flogging for five days.
Findings revealed that, the teacher who is rumored to have had some secret intimate relationship with one of his female students that in turn shared the story with one of her friends, (the missing girl).
It was alleged that the missing girl on getting this information, started telling other students in the school of the secret love between the teacher and his student which did not go down well with the teacher that flogged her 20 times with a cane and promised to continue doing so for the remaining week to serve as punishment for her looseness.

The education commissioner said, that the government is doing everything possible within its power to locate the girl.

The commissioner said, “the ministry got the information rather late but we have swung into action together with the police, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the district head of Miga, the girls parents and other relatives in finding out where the girl must have ran to.

She said it is obvious that the girl ran away from school to avoid the unwarranted punishment by the teacher whom she said has already been handed over to the police. She also stated that a fresh circular would be issued to all schools in the state against capital punishment.
