Arsene Wenger waited thirteen years to secure a first premier league victory against Mourinho with his Arsenal side.
Mourinho says he has finally put a smile on the face of Arsenal fans after a first league defeat to the gunners in a 13 years premier league rivalry.
Goal.com reports that Jose Mourinho could not resist another dig at the Arsenal boss after the Manchester United manager suffered his first Premier League defeat in 13 league encounters.
In 12 previous league meetings between the two managers, the Portuguese had come out victorious in five and drawn seven in a rivalry spanning almost 13 years.
Goals from Granit Xhaka and Danny Welbeck earned Wenger his first league win over Mourinho and, in the process, ended United’s 25-match unbeaten run this term.
The result also prompted Mourinho to write off his team’s prospects of finishing in the top four this season. The import of this is that United’s only hope of being in the champions league next season is winning the Europa League which they have the advantage, having beaten Celta in the first leg of the semi finals. the United boss jibed that he had finally made Arsenal supporters smile.
“They score, they win, and finally I leave this stadium with Arsenal fans happy,” Mourinho told Sky Sports after the game.
“It’s the first time I’ve seen them smile, I’ve seen them enjoy. They deserve it because they’re an amazing club and amazing fans also deserve some joy.”
